perhaps one of your ram modules are broken?
when you install the 4th module to obtain 4gb, try using that to obtain 3.2 gb and see what happens.

Other than that, I don't think I have the expertise to tell you what is wrong. Sorry.

I'm using 2 - 2 gb ram modules, 1 for each slot to give a total of 4 gb. If I only mount one of the modules I can get the laptop to boot up correctly. However, when i mount the second ram module (2bg) for a total of 4bg, the laptop will not boot...period. I get a black screen (Windows Safe Mode and or options). When I try to launch in Safe mode, I see a brief flash of the Windows Loading screen, a very fast flash of a blue screen, then back to the windows safe mode screen. No matter what option I select I cannot get Windows to boot at all. If I select to go into the BIOS, I can see that 4096 gb of Ram are loaded in the memory, but Windows will not boot. If I remove one of the 2gb modules, Vista boots normally. I have an identical laptop with Windows XP OS, and it took the 4 gb and loaded fine only showing 3.3bg, but it still loaded.

What kind of RAM do you have? How is your RAM configuration like?

No, 32-bit can handle 4GB fine but will only utilize about 3.3GB of it. To completely use 4GB, you would need 64-bit

I have seen several posts regarding memory issues with vista 32bit. But I had'nt seen one like the problem I am experiencing. My Old configuration was Windows XP w/1 meg ram, but I upgraded to vista 32bit. No problems with stability issues until I decided to upgrade memory from 2 x 512 mg to 2 x 2gb. If I load all 4 gb of ram my laptop will not boot, I launches into the selection screen that tells you you need to load windows in safe mode, however, it will never load in safe or any of the other options that are available. If I remove one of the memory sticks and only load up 2 gigs of ram, Viata will launch, and show that there are 2 gb of ram available. When I have gone into the BIOS while all 4 gb were loaded, the mem size shows the correct amount of memory, but Vista will not launch. Do i need to upgrade to Vista 64bit?
