To all those who submitted a question or used a form on this site

I apologize to all those who tried to submit a question, tip, missing search, or used a form other than the comments form on the site. I had no idea that my mail server had stopped forwarding the emails to Gmail, which is where I view all my emails from. If you sent in a question after March 10th, please feel free to submit via the form again or send a comment here and I will look at them. Once again, sorry for any inconvenience and thanks for visiting.

VistaRewired’s new template!!!

January 13th, 2008

I didn’t make a post about this when we first released the new template, because I’ve never understood why other blogs do it other than the fact that it gives them an opportunity to make another post. But even after hours of ironing out the problems that rose from the theme transition, it seems like I have to make one of “those” posts.

I installed a new plugin called CyStats which allows me to see which pages are getting accessed and I notice a lot of you are getting 404 errors because you’re trying to access files from the old template. If you are getting a 404 error when you try to access the other pages, make sure to press Shift + Refresh on any page you receive a 404 error on. It will access the site without going to your cache, since your cache will try to access the old files.

There were also a few emails regarding missing files. I’ve reuploaded the popular sound fix for those who’ve had sound issues.

If you guys find any bugs, 404 errors, or anything strange going on, I would really appreciate it if you would contact me. I’m also trying to find out how to redirect old permalinks to new permalinks. I am looking to get rid of the dates in the permalink so if anyone knows anything about this, please talk to me as well.

Other than that, I hope for great things in the future. I will be honest… I am running out of articles to write and am considering stepping away from the Vista-only articles and going more into computers into general. I’ve already broken the rule a few times, like when I wrote my Firefox and IE article.

Please let me know of any comments or thoughts you have of the site. Thanks for your support and Happy Late New Year!

Putting Vista Rewired in a new direction

June 30th, 2007

Since the beginning of this weblog in February, the website has really gone a long way. From having to build the site ground-up three times to struggling to balance updates and my life. I feel that it is time to add a bit of change to the website and to further improve the whole experience. I’ve worked really hard into making sure that every post is of top quality and beneficial to the reader. But I feel that there is still room for a lot of improvements. I am still working on a few changes for this site which include:

- A new design (one sidebar)
- Improved navigation and organization of topics
- A forum
- Addition of other computer topics

My previous request for input was a great help and I’ve managed to make a few additions previously such as page navigation at the bottom and alphabetical listing. I hope this post will spark even more suggestions and constructive criticism, so I can be able to make this a better place for all readers. Thank you once again for your support.

A short hiatus

It has been a week month since I have updated Vista Rewired, and you all must be wondering where all the updates went.

This happens to a very busy time of year for me, and it has been quite difficult to get around writing tutorials for the weblog. I will try my best to update whenever possible, but this weblog is not dead. I will continue to read and reply to your comments, and will update as soon as I am finished with my busy exams.

I hope you guys have been enjoying the tips and tweaks provided here. You are more than welcome to offer any feedback, suggestions, or criticism in the comments.

Thank you to all the loyal readers that have been supporting me, reading my articles, and commenting. So before you unsubscribe from RSS and remove Vista Rewired from your bookmarks, I will be back near the end of June with even better articles. Hope to see you then.

Just a quick shoutout to my buddy, Kevin, who has a great blog of his own as well.

Translators wanted for Vista Rewired

March 30th, 2007

After going through numerous Digg effects and Meneame effects, Vista Rewired has seen a rising number of visits coming from numerous foreign countries. You have probably seen me experimenting with numerous translation services with this website, but none of them seem to be proficient enough compared to an authentic human translator. After seeing Ghacks make a post about a similar situation, I too thought it would be a good idea to expand this blog. I am particularly looking for translators for the following languages (in descending order of preference): Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German, French, and Italian.Update: Spanish has already been taken.

For the first two months, you will be receiving 80% of all adsense revenues generated
from your subdomain. We will then negotiate what is to happen in the long-term.

What does it take to get to the front page of Digg?

March 16th, 2007

Many people take Digg as simply finding an article and submitting it, but I see it as a skill to be developed. It’s much more than just being the first to submit an article. Digging takes practice and needs to be mastered. And so, I have written what I think takes for an article to make it to the front page.

Your feedback and suggestions

Today, Vista Rewired is officially one month old. I would like to thank everyone for the supportive comments and advice I have received. In an effort to make this site the best Vista Resource, we have many more articles and a message board system planned for the future. And yes, we will be shrinking our gigantic header as well. The reason why I am making this post is to encourage comments on how I might further improve this site.

  • What do you want to see written about?
  • What are some things you want to know about Vista?
  • Is there anything you may want to know how to do but don’t know?
  • Where can you see room for improvement in this blog?

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please use the comments system to post your ideas.
