Display My Computer / Control Panel / My Documents / Recyle Bin icons on the desktop in Windows Vista

My Computer, Control Panel, and your Documents can be accessed from the Start Menu, but some still prefer to have these icons displayable on their desktop. If you try the Copy Shortcut method from your Start Menu, you will see that it doesn’t work. However, this doesn’t mean that placing icons for those directories is impossible.

You just have to do it another way. To place those icons on your desktop:

1) Right click on your desktop > Personalize

2) At the navigation bar, select Change Desktop Icons

And that’s all there is to it. You can even customize the way the Recycle Bin looks when it’s full, and after it has been emptied.

And yes, that is one hell of a title, but I really couldn’t think of something better.
