Changing the power buttons from sleep to shut down
A power button (the one in red) has always served one purpose, to switch a device on or off. There is also the power button on your PC. Microsoft has decided to make this easily accessible button a sleep button rather than a power button by default. But you can easily modify the button’s function to turning off your computer easily.

Method #1:
To do this, you can do it step by step or access the location immediately by typing into command prompt.
- Open command prompt by typing cmd in the search bar, then pushing enter
- Enter powercfg.cpl,1
——————————————————————————————-
Method 2:
- First go to your Control Panel - Start Button > Control Panel
- Once at the Control Panel if you are using the normal view - Click on System Maintenance > Power Options > Change what the power buttons do

If you are using the classic view - Click Power Options

- Normal View - You can easily change the power button’s function from the drop down menu. And in 3 steps, you’re finished!

Classic View: Once you click Power Options, under the power plan you are using, click on Change Plan Settings > Change advanced Power Settings > Expand Power Buttons and Lid.

- From this window you can:
- Change what the power button will do when you push it
- Change what the start menu power button will do
Other available options are hibernate, do nothing, sleep, and shut down.
